Update on BlueBeat
BlueBeat owner Hank Risan defended the company by saying that the songs being sold
had been re-recorded – making them exempt from copyright. He claimed the tracks were
both different to the original recordings and identical in sound, thanks to a new technology
called "psycho-acoustic simulation".
However, the judge presiding over the case ruled that Risan hadn't been able to
back up his claim. A court date has been set for November 20.
Also one other note... Bluebeat page won't even load.

Peckish bird briefly downs big atom smasher

A peckish bird briefly knocked out part of the world's biggest atom smasher

by causing a chain reaction with a piece of bread,

the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) said on Monday.

Bits of a French loaf dropped on an external electrical power supply

caused a short circuit last week,

triggering fail-safe devices that shut down part of the cooling system

of the giant experiment to probe the secrets of the universe, CERN said.

The system was restored several hours after the incident last Tuesday

while the multi-billion dollar Large Hadron Collider was barely affected, a spokeswoman said.

"The bird escaped unharmed but lost its bread," CERN said in a statement.

"On Tuesday 3 November, a bird carrying a baguette bread

caused a short circuit in an electrical outdoor installation that serves sectors

7-8 and 8-1 of the LHC," it added.

"The knock-on effects included an interruption to the operation of the LHC cryogenics system."

The 27 kilometre-long (17 mile) particle collider,

which runs in a circular tunnel under the French-Swiss border near the city of Geneva,

has been plagued by problems since it was briefly started up in September 2008.

However, CERN said the latest incident was minor and did not affect attempts

to restart the accelerator later this month following repairs.

"It made for a small warming from absolute zero

(minus 273 degrees Celsius, minus 459 degrees Fahrenheit)

on the Celsius scale to minus 268 degrees but the machine was not stopped,

" CERN spokesman Renilde Vanden Broek told AFP.

"Everything returned to normal a few hours later and operations were able to resume

in the night of November 5," she added.

Designed to shed light on the origins of the universe,

the LHC at CERN took nearly 20 years to complete and cost six billion Swiss francs

(3.9 billion euros, 4.9 billion dollars) to build.

The bird was believed to be an owl.

Astro Boy is Golden
Suprise suprise! The Remake of a japanese classic more than satisfies the young and old.
Some would argue that the CG is not as polished as a Pixar movie but it has it's own style and it
holds up. The story is predictible but i'm a sucker for a good "discovory of powers" movie.
i.e. (the matrix, Iron Man, Spiderman) Pair that with good morals, Good vs. Evil, great humor and
bad ass action secuences, Astro Boy has got legs and is fun as hell to watch.
"See It Twice"

First openly developed production car is for sale (AND IS AWESOME)

It took 35,000 designs by 2,900 community members from over 100 countries to create Local Motor's
Rally Fighter automobile.  Having no desingers on staff didn't stop the crowd-sourced "creative commons"
World War II inspired rally car from seeing the light of day.  Once cars (much like the Rally Fighter) are
designed, the prospective owner can then have them built at Local Motor's regional Micro-Factories.  It's
an interesting and rather innovative take on the traditional act of buying a car.  It also helps that for Local
Motor's first car the Rally Fighter looks amazing, can be equipped with BMW's M57 3.0 turbo-diesel engine
(if you feel fit) and borrow any compatible parts from a number of manufacturers.  It's like a mix between
shopping for a car and Build-A-Bear.  Local Motors is now taking deposits for the approx $50k rally car.

Man allegedly reports fake murder to speed police

TYLER, Texas –

Police said an East Texas man has outsmarted himself

in trying to get a quicker response from officers to an alleged assault.

Tyler police said 38-year-old Mark Anthony Johnson called 911

on Monday night and reported that he'd just committed a homicide

and was armed with a weapon.

According to a Tyler police statement,

several officers sped to the northwest Tyler location with

lights flashing and sirens screaming.

They found Johnson, who allegedly told them the homicide was a ruse

to get a quicker response to what his real beef was, a simple assault complaint.

Indeed, the Tyler police did act quickly. They arrested Johnson and charged him

with filing a false report. He's in the Smith County Jail with bond set at $3,000.

Minn. man allegedly assaults worker with backhoe

DULUTH, Minn. – Prosecutors charged the co-owner

of a Hermantown construction company with allegedly assaulting

a construction worker with a backhoe.

The criminal complaint said a 48-year-old man told investigators

he wanted to "nudge" the victim, but didn't want to hurt him.

He also said it was a stupid thing to do.

It happened at 11:14 a.m. Wednesday,

when the 24-year-old victim sought care in an emergency room.

He reported he was at a job site when he was intentionally struck by the suspect.

Hermantown police Sgt. Mark Gunderson said it appeared the suspect didn't think

the construction worker in the trench was doing his job right,

so he hit him with the backhoe.

The victim was diagnosed with bruises, but no broken bones.

The suspect was charged with second-degree assault.

Man allegedly pushes girlfriend's car into river

MANATEE, Fla. – A man was charged with domestic battery and illegal dumping

after authorities said he pushed his girlfriend's car into a river.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported that a 36-year-old man and his live-in girlfriend

were arguing in her car Sunday night when he kicked her out and drove off.

Witnesses reported seeing the man a short time later at a nearby boat ramp,

pushing the car toward the water.Authorities responded to the area,

and a dive time found the submerged vehicle.

Deputies had initially been concerned that something had happened to the girlfriend,

but she was found safe. He was being held without bail.
