GE unveils holographic storage format
http://mooreslore.corante.com/archives/images/holographic%20storage.jpg

General Electric, after suffering their poorly strategized support of HD-DVD, has jumped back on the digital media format horse and has created a new format that uses holographic storage. GE's microholographic storage drive uses smaller and less complex holograms to store data 3-dimensionally. This technology makes storage of 500 GB possible with the ability to read DVD and Blu-Ray media. The cost per gigabyte will be about 1/10th of what it is for Blu-Ray but the microholographic technology won't be introduced until at least 2011. You can bet that Hideo Kojima is already salivating at the format's suggested ability to cram over 35 hours of FMV cut scenes to Metal Gear Solid 5. engadget

Esquire shoots Megan Fox cover with digital VIDEOcamera

Adding another dose of Gaussian Blur to the line between digital still and video cameras, Esquire magazine shot the cover to their June 2009 edition with a digital video camera. Cover model/actress Megan Fox was told to act out a scene for 10 minutes while the footage was shot with the Red ONE video camera. Editors then picked out the best frame and used it for the cover. Using the hight quality digital footage at a top rate of 120 fps kinda' knocks the ol' "photographer discression" of traditional point and click out of the ball park. Film editors now have another job field to dominate. gizmodo

VIDEO GAMES

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 coming to Xbox 360/PS3 in HD? Capcom's bringin' the hits like it's the year 2000 all over again and you're paying for it! Fighting game slugfest smorgasborg Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is coming to Xbox live & the PSN April 30th (two more days?!) and is going to bring a new feature...HD graphics...sort of. While most of the features are intact from the original game all 56 characters (all available immediately with no need for DLC) the re-release will feature smoothed out pixels for those accustomed to the fine imagery provided by the HD television sets of today. Although the effect comes off a tad like blowing up an image in Photoshop it is but a pittance to re-living the opportunity to beat up Dr. Doom with a giant cactus wearing a sombrero. kotaku

Mr. T & Will Wright vs. the Nazis: The game Gaming as we know it is set to take a dramatic leap into greatness with the Tuesday announcement of ZootFly's (the developer of the now nixed Ghostbusters project) new game which finally allows next gen gamers to control one Mr. T. But the story doesn't end there. According to the press release:

Along with Mr. T and other characters from the graphic novel (?) the game will feature none other than Will Wright. In this universe, Will Wright is a top-notch game designer but a top notch geneticist who was kidnapped and coerced to work on a diabolic plan. Mr. T and Will Wright will join forces to annihilate the Nais and their hardware."

AUTOS

It's official: GM is offing Pontiac While we've heard the rumors and speculation batting around for a bit it is now official. On Monday GM officially put the nail in Pontiac's coffin stating that the 83 year old auto brand will have it's line completely phased out by the end of 2010. This move is to provide focus for General Motors four revised core brands: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC. Now I can see Chevy and some folks love their Cadillacs. But Buick? GMC? autoblog

after finding a barrel of cinnamon bear candies in her hotel room

that police believe had been stolen from a local restaurant.

Officers responded to a 911 call at a hotel room where the woman

The Daily Telegraph

PORTSMOUTH, England, April 27 (UPI) -- British firefighters
say a man set fire to the front of his house trying to kill a spider with a lighter. Firefighters said they arrived at the Portsmouth, England, home
and found the man attempting to put out the flames with a garden hose,
The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

"The whole thing had clearly scared the life out of him,"

said watch manager Steve Pearce "There was a gap in the cladding

where he was trying to kill the spider

and so the sparks got through to the material behind

and started spreading upward toward the roof."

Pearce said firefighters spent about two hours extinguishing the blaze.

"Surprisingly there wasn't much damage to the house other than to the cladding,

" he said. "We obviously had a chat with the man but I don't think he'll be doing this again."

Wife's Bank told hubby about account

NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) -- A New York woman has sued
her bank for letting slip to her husband that she had $800,000
in an account in her own name.

Nazita Aminpour, a dentist, says in legal papers

that the Chase bank branch in Kew Gardens, Queens,

violated federal privacy laws, the New York Post reports.

She said that her husband, David Shamash, nagged her

about the money until she gave him $155,000 in March 2008 to save her marriage.

The couple had a joint account at the branch along with custodial accounts

for their children. But Shamash was not aware that Aminpour

had a large account in her own name until a bank employee called him

to suggest that the money be moved out of a low-interest account

to something with a higher return.

Aminpour wants Chase to reimburse the $155,000 and to pay her legal bills.

A bank statement included in the lawsuit filing shows

she now has more than $1 million in the account, the report said.
