CURRENT EVENTS www.whitehouse.gov - then vs. now
If there is one thing that can be said for Barack Obama's fledgling administration is that it is definitely operating with a better looking homepage that the previous administration. Whitehouse.gov switched over to Barack Obama's presidential page Tuesday at noon on the dot. With higher bandwith, Flash, blogs, larger monitors and CSS for Christ's sake the site hasmore appeal than it did during the dark ages of 8 years ago. Barack Obama is also the first president to have his official picture takenwith a digital camera. Here's to a more tech savvy executive branch in the future. gizmodo

Apple Quitely Updates Low End White Mac Book
Engadget speculates that the upgrade serves to prepare the last member of Apple's
notebook line for the addition of OpenCL in their upcoming OS X Snow Leopard. Updated specs include:
- Processor moved to 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo with 1066 MHz frontside bus from 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo with 866 MHz bus
- Standard RAM increased to 2 GB (two 1 GB sticks) from 1 GB (two 512 MB sticks)
- Graphics switched to NVIDIA 9400M with 256 MB of shared memory from Intel GMA X3100 with 144 MB of shared memory
- Bluetooth version updated to 2.1 from 2.0.
- 320 GB, 5400-rpm hard drive option added
*OpenCL provides programmers a tool set to speed up a wide variety of applications by taking
advantage of untapped GPU processors and multi-core processors found in modern computers.
OpenCL should allow developers to more easily take advantage of existing hardware
(GPUs, CPUs) to deliver faster software performance.

VIDEO GAMES Every Super Mario Land level etched onto an Eee PC
Kotaku reader "Chris" (not me guys I swear) had his Eee PC laser etched with every level of Super Mario Land on the lid. Let me repeat that, every level of Super Mario Land. Everything from level 1-1 to the airplane fight with Tatanga at the end of the game. The etching is very faithful to the game and is quite a shameless plug fornycresistor.com who did the etching. Hopefully Chris picks a more memorable game to etch onto his next Eee PC. Perhaps the Battletoads levels onto a 17" MacBook Pro. kotaku

MOVIES Where the Wild Things Are revealed on skateboards
Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are has created a bit of buzz amongst fans of the children's book and movie buffs alike. Aside from wondering how the hell Jonze is going to stretch the famous short story into a feature length film, people have wondered how the Wild Things themselves would look. Well Girl Skateboards Company (the skateboard company that Jonze co- founded) will be releasing limited edition skateboards featuring the Wild Things from the film. The Things themselves look spot on and, as expected, a bit spooky. slashfilm

AUTOS Smart USA sells almost 25,000 Fortwos in first year
Surpassing Smart's goal of 15,000 units, US auto consumers picked up almost 25,000 Smart Fortwos in the model's first year of sales in the country. Smart aimed high with an attractive campaign touting $99 down for the miniature auto. 100,000 people mailed in checks and Smart expects most to result in sales. Who knows if the all-of-a-sudden-low-again cost of gas will push more people to pick up the Micro Machine in the future. Penske is currently the only US dealer of the Smart Fortwo. autoblog

Teen charged with assaulting mom with taco
So in another act of random food beatings, add Tacos to the every growing list along with
hamburger beatings, Sausage and Spice attacks, heroic turkey clubbings and Sausage beatings.
Zachary Moir 19 was called down by his mother Dena Moir to have some tasty tacos for din din.
When he refused to stop playing his X-Box Dena unplugged his game. He got pissed and pushed
her calling her a *fucking whore*, i really don't know what name he used because the article just said
he used a "bad name".
Dena said, "I've been having trouble with him for awhile won't work, wont' go
to school. He's being rude and disrespectful. Pushing things to the limit as far as the violence.”
A few minutes later Dena says she was in the kitchen cleaning and cooking tacos for dinner when
Zachary showed up. That's when she says he slapped her arm and threw a taco in her face. “He went
ahead and hit me with the taco and I got taco all over my shirt and kitchen. I’ve threatened to call
police before. But anyway this time, I thought he went too far so I called police and he's in jail now.”
Dena Moir called cops and said she wants to press charges. Moir says Zachary has tried to call several
times, but she's not picking up the phone yet. She says she's going to let him sit in his jail cell in
Volusia County for a few days to teach him a lesson.
I ask who's really at fault here?
Did Zachary stumble across the best food weapon of choice? If not what is?
