Budweiser hits back at sales dip with new bow-tie-shaped can

Budweiser's new bow-tie-shaped cans go on sale next month — which AB hope will revive flagging sales.

The beer company, which was hit by a 2.3% dip in sales last quarter, will unveil the quirky "dented-middle" can on May 6.

It's hoped it will appeal to younger drinkers.

Holding 11.3 ounces, compared to the traditional 12-ounce old-style cans, customers will be able to buy them in packs of eight rather than six.

But die-hard fans of the original cylinder need not fear — they will still also be on sale.

The new shape has taken three years to design and mimics the firm's bow-tie symbol first used in its advertisements in 1956.

iOS 7

For months, it's been rumored that a revamp of iOS' UI was coming with iOS 7, with rumors saying that the design would be a “flat” design that de-emphasizes flashiness. Starting on Friday, confirmation and details on the UI overhaul began emerging.

9to5Mac, speaking to unidentified sources who claim to have knowledge of the changes in the upcoming iOS 7, said that Jonny Ive's (Apple's senior vice president of industrial design, now oversees its software design) new design ideas can be summarized in just a few words: "black, white, and flat all over." In other words, the sources said, Ive has opted for simplicity -- as expected -- and has decided to drop the shiny icons, textures, and the lifelike design features.

Ive has shared his reasoning behind his distaste for the texture-heavy (skeuomorphic) interfaces heralded by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and former iOS chief Scott Forstall.

Here's a brief set of examples of the changes coming in iOS 7:

Lock Screen:

With iOS 7, Apple will drop the shiny, transparent time bar on the top of the Lock screen in exchange for a shine-free, black interface. Additionally, the square-grid for entering a pin code has been replaced with round, black buttons with white text and white borders. Additionally, sources say that notifications on the Lock screen may see improved manipulability with gestures.

Notifications Pane:

For instance, Apple’s Notification Center drop-down panel currently has a dark linen background. In iOS 7, according to people familiar with the software, this design becomes a dark grey/black color with white text.

Home Screen:

While the Home screen app icons lose shine, shadows and gloss, the buttons are still round and just as tappable.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 7 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

The Keynote is typically scheduled for June 10.

iphone 5 will get an update and maybe 4S and 4.

Quick review of This is the End

Spoiler Zone at the end of the show. Star Trek Into Darkness.

BOX OFFICE RESULTS

Fast 6 pulls in almost $117m over the holiday weekend

Hangover 3 $50M

Star Trek $47M

Could The Wolverine have an R rating? Rumors are floating around that it may be. This would really hurt the movie and if it gets an R I would expect a re-edit to get it to PG-13.

Shit is crazy!

Beware: ‘Crazy’ ants are on the loose in the Southeast. No really, they're called crazy ants and according to a new study they are so… crazy, that those dreaded fire ants can’t even hold their own against them.

“Fire ants are a real pain, very invasive. But the crazy ant is reportedly worse and it’s displacing the fire ants in a few places. People are actually saying they want their fire ants back.”

Well, actually according to Livescience, compared to the crazy ant, fire ants are actually kind of…polite. Saying, “They live in your yard. They form mounds and stay there, and they only interact with you if you step on their mound." As you can see here.

Whereas crazy ants on the other hand don’t have established colonies so they “go everywhere, invading homes and nesting in walls and crawlspaces, even damaging electrical equipment by swarming inside appliances.”

“The ants are native to South America and were first discovered in the U.S. in 2002, since then 21 counties in Texas have established populations of‘crazy ants.’”

But some good news, the crazy ant is actually a pretty slow mover compared to the fire ant — only advancing about 650 feet a year. So, the spread of the invasive short-tempered ant can be slowed.

Just make sure they’re not catching a ride on your clothes, in bags or other hiding spots — that’s reportedly the primary method the crazies spread.
