Google abandoning Microsoft

Search engine/ad conglomerate/phone os/broadband provider/YouTube owner/television startup/everything under
the sun company Google is phasing out internal use of Microsoft computers.  This comes after a hack made in
January to Google's Chinese operations.  Many security concerned employees ditched their Windows machines
shortly after the attack and moved to Mac OS & Linux machines which are also the work station options for new
Google employees.  If you work at Google and you're still looking for a Windows machine you'll have to get
permission from your CIO (Chief Information Officer).

Hitachi is goes the distance on HDs...again.

Hitachi sent out a press release on Monday announcing the worlds 1st 320GB, 7,200RPM HD in a 7-mm tray.
The 2.5" Serial ATA 3Gbps Travelstar Z7K320 (another snappy name!) maxes out at 1,334 MBps and packs
a 16 MB cache.  I'm always a tad cautious when platter size drops while maintaining speed but it looks like
the real drop will be the price of super-thin netbooks after they drop the SSD and get these babies in.

ASUS Lamborghini VXs looks cool where it doesn't matter

ASUS' Lamborghini 11.6" VX6 & 15.6" VX7 laptops may pack Core i7 with NVIDIA Ion 2 GPUs and Bang & Olfsen

ICE power sound but that doesn't matter much to this jaded consumer.  It may not even be the stylish glossy
automotive lines that adorn the heavily branded case.  No, it's TAIL LIGHTS!  That's right, this series of laptops
packs motherfucking tail lights!  Although the computer looks crazy from the back it's pretty tame on the front.
Check out Engadget for pics if you're down with that sort of thing.

Earthworm Jim HD trailer
GROOVY!  Mid 90's invertibrate superstar Earthworm Jim is the latest retro game character to get the HD treatment.
New levels and 4-player co-op add to the visuals though Jim's voice sounds a bit (waaayyyyy) off.  Earthworm Jim HD
comes to XBOX Live Arcade though release date is TBD (keep an eye out for the keyboard cat cameo).

German robbers destroy bank but fail to get cash

BERLIN (Reuters Life!) –

Would-be robbers in Germany had to flee empty handed

after blowing up everything in a bank except for where the money was,

police said on Wednesday.

Photos in German media showed a scene of devastation in the northeastern village of Malliss,

with the bank reduced to a pile of rubble and its roof completely obliterated.

Amid the wreckage, only the cash machine could be seen intact.

"The explosion was so big, they had to run away without the money,"

said local police spokesman Niels Borgmann.

"Something evidently didn't work the way the robbers wanted it to."

Cars and buildings in a radius of up to 100 meters were damaged in the night time explosion,

though no one was injured.

Police are searching for the suspected robbers.

Thief steals trailer -- with two owners inside

CANBERRA (Reuters) –

A thief who stole a car with a trailer attached got away with more than he bargained for

-- as the two owners were in the back.

Australian police said the couple, aged in their 60s,

were picking up a new trailer from a dealer in the Adelaide suburb of Blair Athol on Monday around noon.

While a sales manager was showing the couple some of the features of their new purchase,

a thief jumped into their car as the keys had been left in the ignition and drove away.

"The sales manager managed to jump from the caravan as it was driven away.

The suspect then crashed into another car...and drove away from the scene at speed,

over kerbs, with the terrified couple still in the caravan," police said in a statement.

The thief abandoned the car and trailer several streets away before running off,

leaving the unharmed couple behind but taking their digital camera with him.

911 caller reports mom took his beer

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., June 1 (UPI) --

Police in Florida said a man charged with making false 911 reports

called the emergency number several times to report his mother took away his beer.

A Pasco County Sheriff's Office arrest report said Charles Dennison, 32,

of New Port Richey called 911 multiple times Friday

and said he wanted his mother arrested for taking his beer,

the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Tuesday.

The report said Dennison was "very intoxicated"

when a deputy arrived and he said the 911 calls would not stop until his mother was arrested.

Dennison was charged with making false 911 calls and jailed in lieu of $150 bail.

(ok go with me on this one remember those calls about the kids,

not going to bed or turning off there game systems.

why weren't there parents sent to jail for the same flagrant misuse of the system?)
