New HDD storage method puts more on your platter

While we're all waiting for SDD prices to evaporate (they never will) it's nice to know that the good ol'

platter based hard drive is still kicking for upgrades.  By combining thermally-assisted magnetic recording
(TAR) and bit-patterned recording (BPR) writing methods researchers say they'll be able to store data at
densities of between one and a theoretical ten terabyte(s) per square inch.  Performance would take at hit
at the cost of the added storage with write speeds of 250 megabits per second (yup, megabits) even with
low error rates. about them SSD drives...

Little Big Planet 2 Announcement

LittleBigPlanet 2 is now official, and Sony has released a trailer showing off what we can expect from the game.
No longer will you only be able to create new levels—you'll now be able to create entire games. Designers will be
able to link levels together to create long-form stories and experiences.
Not much information is known about the game, but we're hoping we'll learn more at E3 next month.
This is a heck of a reveal though, one that should give budding game designers a lot to chew on.
Reports are saying that it should come out on the PS3 this winter.

Man in burning truck drives to fire station

Truck on fire? Forget calling 911.

Craig Brown of Carlton just drove a few more blocks to the McMinnville Fire Station

when smoke started to billow from under the hood of his pickup.

McMinnville Fire Marshal Eric McMullen said

a firefighter who'd been outside Friday morning washing an ambulance

rushed inside to get help.

Firefighters opened the hood and found flames licking around the engine.

They quickly grabbed a hose and put out the fire.

McMullen said the crew was happy to be able to help without leaving the station.

And he adds, "We were joking today about our new drive-up service."
